William Tecumseh Sherman

Industrialist Willard Warner (1826-1906) served under U.S. general William Tecumseh Sherman during the American Civil War. Warner also was acquainted with his brother Sen. John Sherman as well as Salmon P. Chase, secretary of the treasury in the Lincoln administration, among other high-profile Ohioans he met while living there. After settling in Alabama, Warner named his Cherokee County manufacturing complex the Tecumseh Iron Company and its company town for Sherman.
