Henagar is located in northeast DeKalb County in the northeast corner of the state. The Louvin Brothers traditional music duo spent much of their childhood in Henagar. It has a mayor/council form of government.
History
Demographics
According to 2020 Census estimates, Henagar recorded a population of 2,457. Of that number, 87.6 percent of respondents identified themselves as white, 7.5 percent as Hispanic or Latino, 5.8 percent as two or more races, 1.4 percent as American Indian, and 1.2 percent as Native Hawaiian and Other Pacific Islander. The town's median household income was $48,281, and the per capita income was $20,853.

- Retail trade (6.8 percent)

- Professional, scientific, management, and administrative and waste management services (4.0 percent)
- Wholesale trade (3.3 percent)
- Public administration (1.0 percent)
- Information (0.8 percent)
- Agriculture, forestry, fishing and hunting, and extractive (0.7 percent)
Education
Schools in Henagar are part of the DeKalb County School System; the town has one junior high school.
Transportation
State Highway 40 runs roughly east-west through the city, and State Highway 75 roughly north-south. Several country roads also serve the area.
Events and Places of Interest
The Sand Mountain Potato Festival is held in July in Henagar to pay tribute to the area's potato-farming roots. It features a car show, arts and crafts fair, horseshoe tournament, live music, children's games, and food vendors, some featuring potato recipes.
The Hawkins Place is listed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage.
